Sonnet, Queen of the Library

While sonnets reign as Queen of Poetry,
so Sonnet reigns among the Torrey pines,
dashing 'cross computer mice and keys,
dispensing cheer and cancelling library fines,
lying on the carpet getting fat,
helping the students type, pursuing rats
both four-legged and two. How is it that
some folks think they're superior to cats?
Lisa knows better: she brings me good food.
Eleanor is fun and lets me play.
And when it's time to close up for the night
my dearest Tamara whisks me away.
So if you're near my home, please take the time
to come and pet me 'neath the Torrey pines.

(If I have committed an egregious faux paws as to your gender,
please accept my apology and change "Queen" to "King" in the title.)
